Yet walk along any street in Guernsey and the chances are, the street name will be in French and you may still hear a French Guernsey Patois being spoken by the older generations. Approach the quaint town of St Peter Port nestling on the hill side, from the sea, and it reminds many of seaside French towns. Guernsey has a charm all of its own and with it mild climate, beautiful clean beaches, breath-taking views from the rugged south facing 100 metre high cliffs and friendly people, it is not surprising that folk return to Guernsey year after year for short breaks. They like the peaceful atmosphere and relatively crime free environment. As an added attraction, why not visit the neighbouring island which form part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm. Visit Guernsey or Alderney to witness the "total" eclipse of the sun on AUGUST 11th 1999 (99.9% in Guernsey). | |||||||||||||||||||||||
